Loss of power to my Volvo Penta tmd22 p-b diesel engine.. Turbo serviced. Do not know if it is valve or fuel injectors, not sure what to do next as I am not a mechanic. Any ideas. Drop off of power instant. Also black smoke. In neutral 4,000 plus, in gear between 2,000 and 2,200, had turbo reconditioned but not the problem. Fuel system checked all the way through fine. Re timed is good. Engine is very lumpy under power.

Black smoke means more fuel then the motor can burn. Things that cause this issue are:
Clogged air filter
Waste gate stuck open so turbo cannot build pressure
Low compression

Blowing black smoke in neutral I would have a compression test done. This needs to be done by a diesel mechanic because injectors need to be removed to accomplish

I think you are right, boat coming out soon so it can be done on shore instead of on the water. Thanks for your reply.
