Any help for a boat newbie appreciated. I've got a Larson with a 2007 Penta 4.3 that recently had the infamous white-plastic-plug trim pump cover leak that has been much discussed on this site. The dealer replaced the cover with the updated replacement cover, but even after doing so they said the motor only lifts and descends slowly. So they think the trim motor is trash (maybe because it burned out when trying to push the drive without adequate hydraulic fluid?) and needs to be replaced too. The dealer told me that the trim motor retails for $1200. I was really surprised because you can find Penta trim motors list on Amazon and elsewhere for $150-200, and they seem to top out on the various retailer sites at $600 for a unit complete with the pump too. Plus, it's not like a small electric motor is anything that complicated to manufacture. I'm not sure if I am looking at the absolutely correct part numbers and so on, but I am having real trouble finding anything that looks like the right trim motor for anything close to $1200. That quote seems off by about $1000, but like I said I am new to boating.
I'd be really grateful if anyone on the forum could give me a realistic sense of what the relevant part might actually cost.
