I have a 2000 Volvo Penta 5.7L GL engine, is there a water pump impeller that needs servicing? I was told that it was a metal impeller and a non-maintence item. It is RWC. Any truth to this? Thanks.

I was told

I truly hate that saying. Was it an experieced marine tech (obviously not by what was said) or some guy walking around a used boat yard that has never seen a boat before (obviously the case here)

To answer your question, YES, you have a rubber impeller in a raw water pump mounted on your engine (somewhere at this point).
There is a metal impeller, but that is in the circulation pump to assist circulating coolant through the engine,

What is the full model number or volvo serial number of your engine. There are manuals up in the adults only section, but you need to know which ones and year of your boat is not the way to determine year of your engine.

Thanks for the info, really sucks when people talk about things they know nothing about!! I once bought a boat and some people I spoke with (owners of the same boat) swore up and down there was no wood ANYWHERE in the boat.

Yep, there was lots of wood alright.

It should be a belt driven pump on the front of the motor...lower starboard side on some. You will see 2 hoses going to it.The rubber impeller is inside the housing..
Like Don said, post the engine model and serial to get the correct impeller kit.
