I have a '97 Volvo Sx-C1 outdrive with oil in the bellows. The lower housing of the lower unit was cracked this winter and I sent that part away for a new housing. I was thinking I could reseal that myself. My question is, can the input shaft seal be replaced without having to deal with the crush sleeve?
Thanks

No. Since you must remove the shaft and therefore take off the torx bolt you will need to replace the crush sleeve to obtain proper torque and stress on the bearings.

I was reading in "THT" forum last night and found a thread that said it was not necessary. I am a pretty good mechanic but not sure of the procedure to replace the seal. Is this something the average backyard guy could do? If something simple, I would rather replace than reuse. Our boat shops around here are terribly expensive and slow.I already have the outdrive off and the lower split from the upper. Appreciate the help.
