how do you get the leg off of the transom shield ? it has never been taken apart. loosened all the nuts and took the cylinders off and took the shift cable out.

Hello there,

Just completed this one myself, it is pretty straightforward.

Disconnect the control cable, dont forget about the keeper plate on the side.
Undo 6 nyloc nuts.
I think you may have to disconnect the grounding wires for the anoded, but cant be sure.
Loosen bellows clamps.

The drive should just then pull out.

You don't loosen any belows clamps.

If the drive hasn't been off in awhile it is possible that the driveshaft is stuck in the coupler and/or gimbal bearing. They usually just slide out.

Yeah sorry there. bellows need not be loosened, but wouldnt matter as you would be changing the bellows?

does it have to be in the foward gear ? and what if it hasen't been out in a while ? how wood i take it out. please let me know. oiled for a week and it doesn't even budge !!!

No...does not have to be in forward gear.

Does it budge at all? One thing you can try is hook up the tilt rams and tilt it out slightly while jumping on the drive to try and break it loose. Sometimes it will take drastic measure to remove these things if they get stuck. This is the reason you remove them every year.

I bought the boat like that ! the person that i bought the boat told me only the starter was bad, that was just part of the problem. The ring gear is the other problem !!! thanx for the advice i'll try that tomorrow !! i'll keep you posted.
