I have a Volvo SX /OMC Cobra outdrive on my 98 Chaparral 5.0GL.
Trim system model 3868413, with the reservoir above the manifold and motor.
The trim cannot hold pressure when trailed, or under power.
I have found a leaky thermal relief valve, p/n 3856111, and would like to replace it.
It is no longer available with either Volvo or OMC.
Does anyone out there have a solution ?

I am contemplating replacing it with a plug.

Any advice or suggestions ?

Have you tried taking the Valve apart? They're just a checkball and a spring. You'll read everywhere that these can't be taken apart. Count the threads showing and how many turns it takes to remove it. I had the same problem a while back and it was a bad piston ring in the trim cycl, but I took the valve body completely apart and removed all the valves. I haven't had any issues since doing this. You can order the entire valve body assym, but it's not much more to replace the entire pump if you decide to go that route.
