HI Don't know how to start my own thread but here is my queston.. I bought a 1985 bayliner ciera 2450 on ebay and the drive was NOT installed. He did however give me a Volvo 270 drive. I tried taking the drive out with no luck as it is hard as heck. I noticed that the boat had no spark plugs in it and when question his reply was the boat was winterized. I brought it home (10hrs away) and started to go thru the boat. I installed the new spark plugs and first the engine was real SLOW turning as it seemed to be corroded shut (I think) we played with it for a while and got her cranking but not firing. I looked around the internet and found that although it says its a Volvo aq225d it was made by GM. I checked compression which was awesome. I then hooked up the spark plugs to distributor and all I get is it cranking. It tried to fire one time and that was it. Tried starting fluid but nothing just crank. I used the firing order 1-8-4-3-6-5-7-2 with 1 being tdc do I have the wrong firing order? what is stopping it from starting with 64 gallons of treated fuel on board.

Thank you for your answers
Marshall

Welcome to the form vandeusen. The motor is a small block chevy. There is no reason to leave the plugs out for winterization. In fact, that's a bad idea. That's the right order...... I attached a visual. Any idea how old the gas is?

To get an gas motor running you need:
Spark
Fuel
Compression
Timing
You seem to have concluded you have compression and fuel so I'd focus on spark and timing. If you pull a plug and it's fuel soaked I'd check for a good spark. If you have spark, timing (or plug squence) could be the cause.

if your ignition module in the mid 80's volvo distributor is bad, they cost more than buying a new distributor. However check all your connections, check the coil resistance, and check for corrosion under the dist. cap.

Points and condenser in the 80's Volvos
Spark???
Points/ condenser replace.
The firing order should be on the intake manifold.

Anyone who leaves the plugs out for ANY reason is an idiot.

My 1988 271C had a VP specific prestolite electronic ignition, yet when I check the 225A, B, and D, it does have points....wierd

in that case, the points need to be cleaned if it sat too long
