I have a 1989 volvo penta Aq205a V6 engine that has been sitting a few years. The boat was put away winterized and seems to be in great shape.Question is I took the exhaust manifold off to replace starter and there is some scaled rust flaking off the sides of the maifolds and also in the head there is some loose pieces.I cleaned it the best I could.I am wondering if it will hurt to start this up like this?will it just crumble up and wash out or should I do something else before I fire it up the first time.I have a new impeller and thought I would put it in after I ran it a little while.I'm new to I/O motors so any advice would help me.Thanks Doug.Oh one more where does the exaust come out on the duoprop volvos? Can I remove the bellows tube to let that rust flakes come out before the oout drive? Thanks again,Doug

hello<br /> as long as no major pieces went into the cylinders through an open exhaust valve then bolt it back on and run it. an impeller change is a good idea. no need to remove the bellows the exhaust passage is the cavitation plate. good luck and keep boating

Re: Vovo penta cooling

Does anyone know a good place in the Houston,Texas area for volvo parts?I got the motor running and had to replace one riser and I think I will replace the other also because it seems to get hotter than the new one.Might be clogged with to much rust. What is the best way to test if my cooling system is working properly? The water comes out the cavitation plate some but seems more comes out below the outdrive. There is 2 slots with rubber flaps,is this normal? How much pressure should be on hoses when running? Thanks for the help,I know it's a lot of questions but it's my first I/O and I want to make sure it's ok so I don't do any damage to it.It's been sitting a few years. The engine is a AQ205A volvo V6 gm block.Runs smooth now on trailer at idle.I just don't want it to get over heated.

A really good place for Volvo parts in Houston is Palmer Power (713) 644-6410. They are located off 610 around telephone road. They have been very helpfull with questions also. If you want cheap the Boatfix.com is a good place but their wesite is kinda hard to negotiate.
