VP 305-how to flush RWC engines?

I did try to search this, so I apologize in advance if there have already been multiple posts on this subject. I just brought a boat with RWC down from a lake in Canada. I'm on salt water. Someone told me there's a way to install a ball valve and garden hose connections to flush the salt water out of the engines after use. Does anyone have a diagram as to the best way to do this? The engines are V-P 305s.
Thanks.

What is the full model number, or even the serial number of your engine? Many of the newer (since the late 90's) may already have it installed. And those without it many need something different.

No, these are 1970s, VP AQ225B's. S/N 307 ?-4 111427 and 111442
The "?" is something hand stamped, possibly an M or W.

Re: VP 305-how to flush RWC engines?

I have built this system on my Volvo Penta engine.

With the "Tee Valve" I can select if I want to run the engine on water from the garden hose, or sea water. The garden hose can be connected to the boat, from outside. This connection can be flipped up under the vent, so it's hidden.

The reason I have a "Tee fitting" and a "Thru hull fitting", is that I don't like to force water into the raw water pump, when the engine is not running.

After each trip, when the boat is moored, I switch the Tee valve, connect the water hose, open the water, all it can give, and start the engine. Overflow is going out via the thru hull fitting, and the engine takes a little air in, if the water supply isn't adequate. For a short run, this doesn't damage anything.

HorizonblueDK,

Yes, that looks good, thank you.
BTW, the boat is a 1971 Coronet 32 Deepsea, built in your country.

I had a feeling, that you have a Danish Coronet boat, looking at your user name :joyous:

I know these boats, interesting to see that they are found so far away from "home". The guy who designed them is still alive (80 years+). When the Coronet Club has their annual meeting, he shows up and tells stories from the good old days at the factory.

Yes, I had a 24, and now, a 32. There were a few exported to the US, but many, many to Canada, and that's where this boat came from. In fact, it was on a fresh-water lake and so it has RWC. No one at the marina here on Long Island has seen one before, but she receives many compliments. She is now known at the local boat yard as "the Danish boat."

Could you tell me the name of this designer? I read somewhere that there was one American involved in hull design at one point, but I assume the original designer was Danish. How wonderful he's still alive and enjoys talking about the history of these boats.

Just an aside-my great-grandparents came to New York City from Denmark back in the late 1800s.

The designer of almost all the Coronet boats is Hans Bruun Bertelsen.

James R Wynne and Waltman M Walters has assisted on some of the hull designs.

The Coronet club has its base in Sweden. Coronet Yacht Club (language can be switched into English)

I can imagine that your boat gets some attention. The Scandinavian "boat-style" is a bit different that the American. I think many Americans would find it interesting to see some of the boats that was built here, during the 1970s and 1980s. Not many was sold outside Europe, I think.

Ok-Hans Bruun Bertelsen, thank you. Yes, I knew about James R Wynne-quite a character.
I joined the Coronet Yacht Club, and it appears to be an excellent resource for the Coronet owner-restorer.
