Newbie here....I have a 2002 Bluewater Breeze with a Volvo Penta 4.3L PEFS (Engine # 4012049644) with the VP SX Outdrive (SX-M 1.79). I would like to do a tune up and oil change on it as I'm sure it hasn't had one in a long time, if ever. The engine has 164 hrs. on it.
I am thinking of doing the following:
1) Change Engine Oil and Filter
2) Clean Carburetor
3) Replace Spark Plugs, Rotor and Cap
4) Replace Fuel Filter/Water Separator
5) Replace Impeller

I pulled one of the plugs to get the number off it (AC Delco MR43LTS). Does anyone know what the plug gap is for this engine? Also is there a better plug I should be using than an AC plug? Should I replace the ignition wires at this time? Should I also replace the out drive fluid? Is there anything else I should do to this motor/outdrive that I am missing?
Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Re: VP 4.3 GL Tune Up Questions

AC- MR43LTS spark plugs with a .035 gap are correct for that motor and are typically preferred. Some people run the NGK equivalent but stay away from Champions The fuel filter and oil change, engine and outdrive, are yearly maintenance items. The impeller is also recommended to be changed yearly but some stretch it to 2. Your yearly maintenance also needs to include pulling the drive to inspect the bellows and engine alignment and greasing the splines plus the gimbal bearing and u-joints if they are serviceable (some are sealed).

You can change the cap, wires and rotor if you feel it is needed but if it is running correctly, I'd spend that money on an alignment bar from eBay if you don't already have one and plan to do all of this yourself.

Lots of good info on this in the Adults Sticky postings in this forum thanks to Don S
