Re: VP 4.3GL Electric Choke Question.

Thanks Don, I spent an hour testing and removed the choke. Ive come to the conclusion its broken because the resistance is so high Id need a hell of a voltage to get some heat. Like a puzzle it all fits together now. Off to the dealer tomorrow to order another one.

Thanks to everyone whos helped in this thread

Chris

Re: VP 4.3GL Electric Choke Question.

Today I have taken the choke to pieces for those who are interested this is how the Holley electric choke on my engine works. The + terminal is attached to a spring. The spring presses onto a small disk about the size of a little finger nail which is attached to the brass plate that holds the bimetal coil with a sticky white paste. It is this disc / paste that provides the resistance required to generate the heat. Over time the spring has got weak and the disc came slightly away from the main brass disc holding the bimetal spring causing the resistance to increase (8K ohms) which 12v could not cause to get hot. Pressing the disc onto and uncompressing the spring has left a working electric choke with a resistance of 9 ohms.
