VP 5.0Gxi tach signal source?

I have installed a Floscan 7000 on a 2003 VP 5.0Gxi-B. I have the Floscan red switch on position 3 which is for an 8 cylinder engine. However the instructions say that for some EFI engines, the tach signal may come from the CPU and is not always based on the number of cylinders.

Does anyone here know where the tach signal comes from on this engine? Would anyone also happen to know if the Floscan red switch setting of (3) for 8 cylinders is the correct choice?

Thanks,

-Dale-

call flowscan.
if they cant help post all the engine numbers. yes on most MPI motors using the EST distributor the ECU gives tach signal info, however the ign coil primary wireing can be tapped for a 12V signal.

Re: VP 5.0Gxi tach signal source?

I called them, and they didn't know except to offer that I try position 1 (CPU) and if that looked wrong to try position 3 (8 cylinders). I did that and ended up using position 3. It seems like the indicated rpm might be a little low, compared to the original tach reading, but not much and it might be my guess on that that's wrong.

Otherwise it seems to work just fine. Glad that project is behind me, and I bet Don S will be glad that I don't need to ask any more novice questions about it. (Prior posts!)
