Hi - I have a no start issue with my boat (vp 5.7gi-D). Died in the middle of the lake a few weeks ago. Won't prime with fuel. Replaced pump assembly, and still will not prime. No fuel entering low side (none present at LP pump schrader valve) and nothing at the fuel rail schrader valve. I can easily draw fuel from the tank with a hand pump. I can hear the pumps running with key on, and tried switching the pump elec connectors to make sure I wasn't just hearing 1 pump run. Would really appreciate any ideas here! Thx in advance!

first, welcome aboard

what troubleshooting have you done, or have you just thrown parts at it?

look between the tank and the pump. between there is the tank pickup tube with a strainer, the anti-siphon valve, a section of hose, the fuel/water filter, then the pumps.

have you physically checked the pickup tube? Anti siphon valve?

have you checked the incoming line for a leak? any leak between the pump and the tank and it will not prime.

Hi - and thanks for the response! Prior to replacing the pump I tried running it off a separate fule source (gas can in boat connected to pump.) I will try this again, just to rule out that the issue isn't upstream of the pump. But, I was able to easily draw fuel from the boat tank using a small hand operated vac pump on the main boat fuel line.

I have now checked the anti siphon valve and the fuel line fron the tank to the pump. No leaks. The valve does let the fuel back into the tank slowly...prob took 5 to 10 min to drain back. This doesnt seem quite right but could that really be the issue? I can draw fuel quite easily from the tank through the anti siphon valve. Tried to get the tank outlet tube out and it didnt budge. Not sure how much I can pull on it before it pulls out of the top of the tank...that would be bad. Thx again for any suggestions!

Ok - issue resolved! The original issue of dying with no prime at the lake was due to a flaw in the upper assembly of the fuel pump. It was the original fuel pump, which had been refurbished by ManCaveMechanic. He did a great job and pump ran great for 2 years. Somehow the casting flaw had been sealed by the paint on the exterior of the pump, and a few weeks ago it no longer sealed (I'm guessing ethanol in the fuel ate away at the paint, opening up the hole.) The hole in the casting is easy to see now. When I got a new assembly I also got new pump electrical connectors. I somehow wired them incorrectly, so the pumps were trying to run backwards. Totally my fault. I will claim tho that since the new connectors have the black wire on the opposite side from the old connectors, that it was not really intuitive how they should have been wired. Still, I should have been more careful there. All that to say, I rewired the connectors, primed the pumps by cycling the key a few times, and the boat roared to life! Time for an adult beverage now!
