VP 5.7 ignition timing - what to align?

Sounds like you aren't getting any spark at all now. Cap, rotor, coil, ignition module.

It was the coil..

Bought "Delco Voyager EST Marine Electronic Distributor Kit" and switched the distributor first, using this video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FHX1yXVyIMg

and installed it with 8* BTDC directly. Didn't start at all, the timing lamp didn't flash on cylinder#1-cable or the cable from the coil. Put a cloth on the engine and laid down the new coil there and switched cables from the old to the new. Bam, started right away. Had to drill out the bracket from the old and use that, since the bracket from the kit didn't fit.

Good thing I changed the distributor anyway, the old one turned much harder than the new, and I couldn't feel the magnets on the old one at all when I turned the distributor.
