So I have a new 5.7 gxi-f from Michigan motorz. Has the 5 qrt oil pan. I put 5 qrts in it from the beginning. The oil level on the dipstick is read very high. Like 6 inches up the dipstick. Had a marine mechanic come do an oil change to after the break in. It showed over full after only 2 qrts. And he was 100% sure he got the oil oil out. We went ahead and put the 5 qrts in it. Is sounds and runs great. But I would like the dipstick to read right. Any thoughts or anyone else have this issue. Never seen one that goes in the bottom drain plug. I don't understand how that works..... But that's the way it was on the original motor and how michiganmotorz told me to do it.

How much oil came out it when the oil was changed ? Is it the right dip stick ?

I just asked him we didn't check when he was here. But the dipstick is the original from my old motor, just swapped it. I assume it right..... Something isn't right tho. Lol

So strange that one. Only other silly thing I can think of is that it’s not a 5l capacity. I know the 5.0 305 holds 4l (4 quarts)

Unless they put it together wrong. My receipt says 5 qrt oil pan.

If that was the original dipstick and tube, and it was measuring correct before, then there is an issue somewhere

What could be the issue? Engine sounds and runs great.

I don't know, but your saying this same dipstick worked and now it doesn't

There is a baffle in the motor which shows it to be over filled with just 2 quarts added.

Can you explain how the dipstick measures from the drain plug? How does that work coming up from the bottom?

Measure the tube and then compare how far the stick will go in. Oil will be same level in tube as in the pan

Awesome thanks. That helps. So my dipstick is 29in long. It reads correct at 26.5. But measuring not out it looks like it's about half or less of the pan. I know I put 5qrtrs in new motor, we took 5 out and put 5.5 back in. So I know it's right. Maybe I bent the tube during install. It does have some curves. Lol

Mine is the same way. I too replaced my 5.7 with a Michiganmotorz new block. My dipstick has always read high on this engine and on my old origional one. I ordered a new dipstick, same results. I used to worry about it but after years of no problem, have just accepted it as normal.

The main thing I think you need to factor is to make sure that you drain/suck as much of the old oil out that you can and be sure of exactly how much you are putting in. Use that mark as your new normal.

Mark the dipstick where the oil was after first oil added
