Hi all,

First time poster long time reader.

I am looking at buying a 27ft Cruiser, it has a 5.7 OSXi with a XDP sterndrive straped to the back. The engine only has 50 hours on it. All that I have been reading over the last while is that the XDP would make a great paper weight or anchor. Is it worth changing the sterndrive over to a DPS drive, is it worth the doe or not and can it strap onto the current configuration.

If the XDP is that bad (and I've read the issues) I would keep looking for a boat that doesn't have that drive. I think it's cheaper to replace an engine than the drive (if you can do the work yourself). Else, get something that has what you want already installed.

I did think about that, but the boat is going cheep and it's in really great condition. It hasn't been in the water in years.

I realise that if I do get it I might need to change the bellows and give her a really good service before I take her out.

I can do the work myself, so I would save some coin that way, does anyone have any idea as to the expence of the DPS?

Keep looking. You do not want that drive.
To convert would require a transom shield kit, drive, and props. and parts alone would cost 12-$13,000 for the conversion.
