HI
Just took the boat out ,everything good when launched and idling at the dock. Went for trip out to the islands ,when slowed down to idle though the anchorage my wife noticed a metalic knocking noice coming from the engine . When i lifted the engine cover the noise seemto be coming from the rear of the left bank.A real metalic knocking noise at idle but goes away when the revs are increased, could this be a sticky lifter? I have not noticed any loss in power .My real question is should i drive the boat back to shore (about 10 miles) or get a tow.
Thanks in advance for any replies.

a metalic knocking could most likely be slop in your u-joints.

lifters is more of a clacking.

knocking is never a good sign in a motor.

I would drive it back, then find the problem and fix it.
