VP AQ130 rebuild problems

hi all,

rebuilding my AQ130, so far so good, till i come to the thermostat housing ( or the water distribution housing as per the manual ), so it describes the cooling system as follows:

" From the distribution housing the water can follow two paths. While the engine is cold and the thermostat closed, the through flow of cooling water is prevented, so all the cooling water is forced out to the exhaust elbow via the distribution housing where it is mixed with the engine exhaust gases. the cooling water in the engine cooling channels is thus heated up rapidly. this opens the thermostat and forces the cooling water to pass through the engine cooling channels before leaving the engine at the exhaust elbow. the cooling water circulation is thus controlled by the thermostat "

Now when i look at the thermostat housing i can see the top water entry goes straight over the housing and down into the block, and the bottom entry is the outlet to the exhaust elbow when the stat opens, there is a drilling or what looks like there should be a drilling from above the stat to the top inlet, but it is blocked solid, i am guessing that this is the way that the water should pass though when the stat is closed, should it be a pressure valve or a stright drilling, my way of thinking is that the pump pushes water through the top inlet which goes round the block, the stat is shut so water can go no further, therefore a pressure builds up and the water goes down the drilling and straight out to the exhaust elbow, am i correct or is there a pressure valve built into the drilling? any help would be very much appreciated.

I have AQ130C for long time, had rebuild this engine years ago, there is no pressure valve,or any devices regulating cooling water in the engine head but thermostat .
