Last year my 02 VP Cobra SX outdrive was working without issues. At the end of the season I replaced the gear oil and used the recommended Mobil 1 75/90. The oil is about halfway up the dipstick. I also removed the outdrive and replaced both bellows. I took a picture of the shift cable adjuster before I removed it and when I put it back together I gave it about the same number of turns. Put it back together, started it up and it shifted into forward and reverse without any issue.
Get on the the water, back up from the launch and then forward into the lake. Later I try to go back in and it will not go into forward gear. Just rev up and nothing. It will go into reverse fine. Had to use kicker motor to get in. I took a picture of the shift cable before I remove it the first time and I counted the number of threads visible. I was two turns off when I reassembled it. So I put the other two turns in the adjuster and it is now bottomed out against the shift cable. Put back together and tried it with the muffs on. Forward and reverse with no issues.
Bring back to lake and head out with no issue. Try to go back in later and same problem, won’t go into forward. Will still go into reverse no problem. Any ideas what the issue is? Could the gear oil level be causing this? It shifted fine all last year so I don’t thing it’s the cone clutch. Is my shift cable stretched out and in need of being replaced? Thanks for any help guys
