I just bought a carolina classic 28 with a set of volvo penda dp-e drives, the boat was built in 1997 so im sure its been in the water most of its life. Been reading about how bad is to have a full time salwater boat with outdrives and I'm starting to get worried. The outdrive overall doesn't look bad, they have bottom paint so that makes them look kind of ugly. I know servicing them it's going to be a pita since they have been in salt water. I need to fix a power trim leak in one of the trim cylinder an it already looks like I'm going to have a hard time.
Should I i be concern about a 20 year old outdrive been in saltwater most of its life?
Are those drives good units, i have read some people saying they are bulletproof?
Since it's out of the water I'm going to service them.
