So I need to change a ruptured hydraulic tilt line and need to remove my 1996 DP-S outdrive to access connections. My concern is aligning the drive back up. Can I do this myself or do I need a second person? Also, I'm not messing with the engine but do I still need an alignment tool to put drive back on? If so, where do I get the tool? My first time removing an outdrive. Thank you, Eric

Yes for sure you need an alignment tool, the same one that works for Merc & OMC Cobra works for Volvo SX, if you have the SX style but the DP version. If you try to do it without the tool approx. 85% of the time it will fight you and not want to go in. The tool you can buy on Amazon or Ebay, aftermarke is fine, I have a Sierra one...
and also....how strong is your lower back? If you have ANY back problems at all, then my best advice is to build or buy an outdrive jack. I built one of wood years ago and as I got older, and smarter I bought a good one with a jack. Makes this job much easier.
