Hello all, I had been reading an excellent thread (now closed) that was describing how to rebuild the raw water pump with new bearings, seal, o-ring, etc. (VP #3857794)

Mine is on a 5.7 GS PLKD (1997)

The instructions and photos were excellent and I was able to disassemble the pump on my own. However, the thread mentioned that you should see a shiny line where the shaft went through the seal, but if the shaft were grooved or scored, its toast and the pump will need to be replaced entirely.

I've attached a photo of my shaft, which unfortunately was grooved, as you can see near the gear teeth. I could definitely feel this groove when sliding the new seal onto the shaft.

My question is whether or not anyone else has gone ahead with rebuilding the pump with a slightly scored shaft and what were the results? Did it leak or not?

Here is the link to the old thread that explained how to rebuild this pump:

That grove looks like it might be from manufacturing, is that the region of the shaft where the seal rides?

I'm honestly not sure. I ended up replacing the pump just to be sure I wouldn't have any problems. New pump works perfect.
