Vp steering problems

I have a Volvo Penta 5.0 has the sx drive. I found that there is a lot of play in the steering I looked it over and on the assembly the actuator part moves back and fourth about 3in in either direction before the arm begins to move the steering. I can hold it to o e side by hand and the play is gone. Is the normal or is the a fix for this

I'll assume you're talking about a power steering ram mounted on the transom plate. Moving this into the V-P section.

Yes it has what I think seems to be a lot of movement before it starts to catch and move the steering

First, why do you think there is lots of play.

Where are you measuring the 3" from

If your boat wanders a bit between idle speed and planing speed, that is normal....all v-hulls do that

Ayuh,..... The gap you show in yer pictures is the valve motion, when the motor is runnin', it'll self-center, 'n the gap will be consistent,.....

I'm guessin', as Scott says, yer experiencin' V-hull wander at idle speeds,....
