vro alarm for other uses too?

My mechanic disconnected my vro system because I was concerned about it going bad and I still use the vro for a fuel pump. To stop the annoying alarm he disconnected 2 of the wires at the alarm (which appear to be the power feed.) My question is are there other things using that alarm such as water pressure, temp, etc? It's a pontoon boat with a 50hp Johnson if that helps anyone! Is there a right and wrong way of disconnecting the alarm? I figure that there is still something trying to send a signal to that alarm and the only reason I don't hear it is that there isn't any power to it.

Any thoughts?

Thanks.

The only thing you'll have now is the overheat alarm which is a steady tone. Disconnecting the VRO inputs to the alarm horn should not interfer with the overheat alarm.

Find the temp sensor on the back of the powerhead near the top spark plug. Disconnect the tan wire from the sensor and ground it to a clean bare spot on the powerhead and your horn should sound. Do this with the key in the ON position, not start. If it sounds, you are OK.

Re: vro alarm for other uses too?

So what you're telling me is that the tan wire is the temp sensor and the black wire is for the VRO input? Also, when he unhooked the VRO he left the wiring coming from the motor into the area where the oil resevoir was. Is there a proper way to disconnect/remove those or should I wait to do that when/if I put a different fuel pump on?

Thanks again.
