Hello,
1990 Evinrude 90hp

Had a scare the other day that I don't care to repeat; motor locked up with no sound of the vro alarm. I would like to disconnect the vro and go to premix but am confused. My mechanic tells me all I need to do is run the tank dry and disconnect the wires from the pump, but I've seen threads in here that say the oil line should be plugged-up. If someone could please advise on the correct way to get rid of the vro I'd appreciate it. Thanks.

Re: vro bypass/disconnect

Plug it close to the motor to reduce chance of air leak. Normally, the associated wires would then need to be disconnected. Check the overheat circuit before you go back out. Ground one of the tan wires (at the head) while the switch is on. Horn should sound continuously.
