OK, so, I've got an '89 70hp. I've had it for 4 years and been running the VRO and it has run great. I disconnect all the fuel and oil lines off the lower cowling this spring so I could strip and paint the corrosion off. I was careful to cap the open lines. I hook it back up, put her in the water, and the VRO alarm is sounding. I try to re-prime the system with the bulb, I take the line off and make sure oil is flowing... it is... So after some frustration, I say screw it and mix my fuel and run that instead (50:1 TC-W3). Now, I've got a few new issues:
1) I cannot idle in gear. I've spent hours at the dock fiddling with throttle adjustments. No matter what I do, placing it in gear at idle it is guaranteed to stall out, even if the idle was very high in neutral.
2) It smokes a ton, like it's running too much oil. Although I have heard the VRO leans it out to 100:1 at times, so this could just be a side effect of the delete.
3) I burn a TON of fuel... almost 3 times as much as I used to. My 12 gallon tank can't even get me through a day of boating anymore, where it once did without issue.

Is there anything I can do? Where should I start? or should I just troubleshoot the VRO issue further and try that again?

Thanks in advance!

Stop adjusting things and do some testing.----Remove cover in front of carburetors;-----Operate the primer bulb.----Do you see fuel leaking ? ------Does the primer fuel bulb go hard when you operate it ?-----Do a compression test.-----And does spark jump a gap of 3/8" on each lead.-----Report what you find for to determine what to do.
