VRO Oil Tank Problems

On my 1995 Evinrude 175hp Intruder my alarm is sounding. I tracked it down to the float in the oil tank thanks to Joe Reeves. My question is how does the float work and how do you fix it? Do you have to buy a whole new tank and float? And do I really have to have it working. I can see my tank and can tell if its low.

Thanks,
Robert

It's just a float switch. Maybe it's stuck in a down position. Unscrew and remove the whole assembly from the oil tank and see if the float moves freely up and down as it should and if it sets off the alarm when its near the bottom of its travel.

What moves up and down? The only thing that looks somewhat like a float is a small metal shaft that goes through the middle of that round black plastic case. And on top of the shaft is a metal washer looking thing. If thats what your talking about then yes its moving freely. It will set the alarm off if its pushed down or all the way up.

Thanks,
Robert
