i have a 84 evinrude 115.ill start with the vro pump first, the boat sat for about a month today i pumped prime ball geting ready to start motor i saw gas flowing out around the vro pump seal. should it be replaced or rebuilt and would it cause the motor to run different.when it was in the water at full throttle it sounded like it was running out of gas would start to fev up then bog back down. ok now with the over heat i have replaced rhe thermos and impeller.it would overheat only at wot. i started it today with the muffs on it ran for about 5 min ,i felt the water when it was peeing at first it was hose temp the it was hot as hell then hose temp and then hot again.within that 5min the overheat alarm came on. i put my finger on the head and could not hold it there for more than a sec.its only overheated on the water never with just the muffs any answers would really help.money is tight and a honest mechanic is hard to find:rolleyes:

Did you replace only the impeller, or put a complete kit in? You may have reused parts that should have been scrapped.

I agree with Wilde on the W/P probs and it sounds like your VRO should be replaced depending on where it's leaking fuel.

If just the small screws are loose around the "VRO" pump, you might try snugging them up, just don't overdue the torque as the pump is plastic. You will need a Torx screwdriver of the correct size, either a 15 or a 20Torx, I forget which.

Sounds like your vro is failing. If you have a steady telltale at idle then you know that your impeller/pump are working fine.
The overheat is being caused by a lack of oil.
If you can tighten up the fuel side of the pump so it doesn't leak then just try premixing some oil and gas and see if that stops your overheat.

My personal opinion is that any type of oil injection system that is more than say 10 years old, should be disconnected/bypassed and the fuel premixed.

They WILL fail eventually and unfortunately they usually take out the powerhead with them.

Premixing is just cheap insurance.

I would do a compression test to make sure you haven't done too much damage.
