Friends,

I have just joined this forum and am very happy to find it!

I have just purchased an older bass boat 1994 Stratos 201 with a 225 Evinrude Vindicator on it. It has been sitting for four years and have it in the shop to get it nice, for I am a mechanical dufus. I want to get better so I can do the basics.

Here is my struggle, the last engine I had was a 1986 175 Merc..the oil pump went bad and you know the rest of the story.

With my new 225, I am thinking about going to "mixing myself" and bypassing the VRO. There are many thoughts about this and I am trying to do my homework and educate myself on what is best.

Please help educate me, I am very appreciative of your help!

Sincerely,

Pastor Mike

Re: VRO Question (Please Help)!!!!!

I recently bought a used 25 hp Johnson with mixing unit. and was faced with the same decision. After reading about the mixing units pros and cons, I just removed it for piece of mind. You can add oil to the mixing unit tank and always be wondering if its working or just add the oil to the fuel tank (which take the same amount of time) and enjoy the day on the water. Just my opinion.
Cheers!!

Mike, Do you have the 4 wire OMS pump on that motor? Does it have the System Check Tachometer? If so, it has a really reliable oil injection system and warning system. You might have the mechanic check the warning sensors and report on what he finds.

By the way seahorse5. I never call my unit a VRO, but a mixing unit. Different yes, but completely different no. It mixes gas and oil bottom line. Thanks for your opinion.
