OK I have a 1989 110 HP Johnson...I am going to do the VRO removal and do the 50:1 mixing in the tank......but I read somewhere that disconnecting the wiring to the VRO will disconnect the temp gauge to the dash....can anyone tell me if this is true and if it is how to fix that.....Thanks

Unplug the pump and tank harnesses and disconnect the oil line and cap it off. I don'k know if it will affect your temp gauge because it's aftermarket. That motor did not come with one so I don't know how it is wired. The warning horn in the control box will still work.

No it will not cause any difference.
your temp guage is on a separate wire , nothing to do with the vro, like said above they did not come with a temp gauge .

So you don't trust the VRO for oiling but you will trust the fuel pump section????

Yank the whole VRO pump out of there and replace it with a non-VRO impulse pump. When I did the one on my '87 90hp Johnson I retained the plastic fuel manifold and used it in the conversion since the space to replumb is very tight. Removing the VRO was the first thing I did when I got this motor, and I haven't looked back. I did the conversion 3 years ago and have had no issue. A fuel pump is around $60.

Like suggested in #2, the vro pump can work fine as a regular pump using premix. It can also be rebuilt like other pumps, if needed -- a little expensive for a kit (compared to the price of a standard pump used as a replacement). Your call.
