Re: Vro

Trick question. There are a couple of (very) different types of automatic oil mixing systems on an OMC motor depending on the year.

Re: Vro

Remove the oiling side of it and use it for a fuel pump mixing your fuel 50:1 premix.

Been discussed to death. Use it or lose it. Strictly your decision.

Re: Vro

Sorry Silvertip . I know it has been done to death X 1000000. I am having a hard time making my decision and i am taking my boat in at the end of the month. First time with a larger motor and am not sure what to do.

Re: Vro

As stated, its a personal decision.

If you remove it, and someone forgets to premix you blame removing the VRO for the rest of your life.

If you leave it, and it fails, you will blame leaving it for the rest of your life.

Its really a no win situation. :)

All kidding aside, just do what you are comfortable with. There is some reading about it in the FAQs.

My personal opinion about it is on the earlier ones like yours, I would remove the oil side as stated by Boobie.

Re: Vro

Why base a technical decision on an internet popularity poll? Search out the facts (many many many threads on iboats alone, not to mention all the other boating sites out there), discard the old wives tails (i.e. one cylinder went out and mechanic said it was because of VRO - if it was the VRO's fault ALL cylinders would have been affected), then make your decision.

Re: Vro

Maradaur,

Heres one vote for keeping it. I also have a 1986 140hp that has 2000 hours on the original VRO (fuel side rebuilt several years ago). My oil tank is under the rear deck not subject to the elements.

Re: Vro

Using any oil injection system adds convenience at the cost of added risk. The early VRO systems were not as reliable as the newer systems; nevertheless, my choice is to minimize risk. Take it off.
