Back ground, Motor was just been rebuilt by me and all things were going well.
Details from previous post. http://forums.iboats.com/showthread.php?t=537626

OK Folks, I have got this thing back together and it fired up and run well on the ears in the drive way.
I am running a pre mix of 50:1 for break in, which turned out to be an engine saver.
I dropped it in the river and took it out and the thing coughed out the carbs and stalled. Put this down to not being run for a while, primed the line up again and hit the elec primer during start and away it went. Idle out through the 4 knott limit was about to open it up and the oil horn came on (Thank f#ck for premix). Hit the primer on the oil line and the horn went off. This happened a few times and I'm putting this down to the system needing to beprimed.

Now for the bigger issue, a number of times the motor would miss and cough through the carbs and stall. Each time I reprimed with the bulb and it would fire back up. Note the bulb had no pressure in it. I have deduced so far that it's a fuel issue (Call me a rocket scientist) but I'm not sure where to start on this, I have no visible leaks in any of the lines. I did notice after wards that I have a crack in the red lever for the fuel primer and when activated fuel came out. I am ordering a replacement for this but I'm not sure that this is the main issue.

I'm looking for a few items to investigate before splashing out on a new fuel pump.

Cheers

Disconnect the inlet line and crank the motor to check fuel pump output. Don't forget to either have it in the water or put the muffs on to save the impeller.

Would you care to tell us the year and HP? Is it a 60* motor, an inline or a 90* motor? It sounds like a bad primer bulb, but that is just a guess.

Hi Chris1956

It's a 1991 175HP Intruder (V6 Looper). The primer bulb is less than 3 months old, I've been chasing different issue on this motor for a while now.
Prior to the rebuild it's had new float chambers on all carbs, all the electronics have been replaced, Stator, rectifier, timing pickup, power pack coils and plug leads.

I had to put T stats in as they had been removed and the quick start had been earthed by some dodgey mechanic.

Kenmyfam, thanks for you info.

I'm not a big fan of moving away form stock on things like this, so I'd rather keep the VRO2 system running. I'm happy to buy a new pump if need be but I just wanted to test and verify that's the issue first.

Cheers

Re: VRO2 Fuel pump troubleshooting

Put a pressure gauge in system to check fuel pressure. Easiest to tie it in by disconnecting the primer solenoid supply line and plugging in...

Re: VRO2 Fuel pump troubleshooting

I have bit the bullet and ordered the pump, hopefully this is it for a while.

Apart form the main hard parts, crank, rods, block and heads it's almost new :)
