VTS (Variable Trolling Speed) Connection on F90

I have an F90 with remote console and I would like to rig up a VTS switch. I assume the connector I need to get to is the one I have drawn the box around in the photo but was hoping someone could confirm that. It is a 3 wire connector (red, black, white) so probably black = common, red = up and white = down or the other way around. It has a plug in it. The plug has a jumper wire between two of the pins.

Anyone know of a source for Yamaha connectors and terminals? I have the switches I want to use and a cable but need the connector. I suppose I could buy the tiller VTS assembly and use only the connector but that would be a pretty expensive connector.

The wire colours for the variable trolling speed connector are black, orange with white tracer (UP) and white with blue tracer (DOWN).

Find the correct connector and let me know if it has a cap on it. The connector is flat by the way. Not round, square or rectangular by the way. The cap will act as your connector. It will be found in the front of the engine pan on the middle/left hand side. Probably covered up by some stuff.

Yamaha does not provide pins, sockets or connectors by the way.

Thank you Boscoe99 you got me on the right track. I found the connector you mentioned and it has a cap on it. Looks like I will need male terminals if I can figure out who makes this connector and if I can find a place to buy them from. This guy:

sells a bunch of Japanese sealed connectors for motorcycles but I don't see the one I am looking for.

You can buy a 6Y5-83653-00-00 Yamaha harness for about 35 bucks.

http://yamahaoutboards.com/Marine_Rigging_Parts_Catalog/#95/z

Remove the sockets from the connector on one end. Those sockets will then clip into the cap that you will remove from the motor. The cap (now connector with sockets in it) will plug into the harness connector.

Add a single pole double throw momentary switch and you have a remotely operated VTS switch.

That is a clever way to get the needed parts. I will get one of those harnesses and put it together. Thank you for all the help.

Boscoe99 - I got the cable today and have it all connected. Tomorrow I will roll the boat out in the driveway, hook up the garden hose and give it a try. That cable looks much more robust and marine like than the one I was going to use. Have another question for you - Is the NMEA network connector on the right side, a little below and about 4 inches behind the oil filter? The one I am talking about is a 4 pin connector with two wires in it (white and blue). I have been wanting to set up a network to share engine info with my Lowrance sonar. It looks like the connector I am going to cut off of this new cable has the right terminals for that network connector. That would be a nice bonus.
