I'm planning to install a monster mt1 wake tower on my glastron. I do plan to reinforce the hull. I have some composite deck boards laying around and was wondering if those would work? They are solid. Or should I just purchase marine grade plywood. I'm not going to fiberglass, just glue the backing board to the hull. Thoughts?

No to the plywood. I would think this would be a good use for the composite board. The goal is to spread the load enough to prevent cracking and the composite decking would do the trick. Guessing it's 1 1/4 right?

It is a 1x6. So its 3/4" thick.

At the same thickness, plywood is stiffer than composite decking. But you will have to waterproof plywood. Pieces of 1/4" aluminum would be a very good addition over the plywood or composite.

The composite board has zero strength, use plywood or aluminum. It may help to add some glass under the aluminum and out a bit further to spread the load. Plywood is a little more forgiving.

I would think your composite boards will work....

this is without pics..but composite or wood should work for a backing ( I prefer solid MG or glass backed ).

No water should intrude on a proper backing ( MG..composit or alum/SS ) ..

I think your ok with this.

Re: wake tower hull reinforcement

Composite boards don't hold up to any kind of stress, tightening a bolt trough it and then working the bolt around (leverage from the tower) results in the board being deformed and then the bolt becoming loose.

Ayuh,.... I'd probably use an ole piece of 1/2" CDX, or Whatevers layin' around.....

Gettin' Wet, 'n Rottin' shouldn't be an issue, up-under the gunwales... a dab of 4200 for insurance...
Cut it as Huge as possible, yet able to lay flat on the glass...
Bolt the whole thing together with SSteel screws/ bolts, 'n big body washers, 'n lock-nuts....;)
