wakeboarding with smart tabs

Ok, I've been reading tons of posts about the smart tabs. Everybody raves about them. Before I buy them, here is my situation and concerns.
The boat is new to me, it's a 93 Crownline 182, with a 4.3LX, I believe 190HP. This is the deepest hull I have ever owned, and it's heavy. I love the ride, and the 4.3 seems to perform well with it. Top speed so far has been 49, and yesterday I pulled 2 trick skiers out of deep water, and the boat did ok, although there was a lot of bow rise. It does come on plane, after a short while, maybe 6-8 seconds. Actually, any acceleration has the same affect, quite a bit of rise in the bow, just for a longer time with somebody in tow.
I realize the smart tabs should help this situation. The question I have about them is this. My youngest son is into wakeboarding. The oldest does the trick skis, (learning), and I slalom ski.(not a novice, but certainly no expert)
Younger son really likes the wake of this boat for his board, at 19-20 mph, I actually trim the bow up to help with the wake. At higher speeds for skiing, the wake isn't too bad, although bigger than the outboard I used to have. If I install smart tabs, how much affect will it have on the wake for the wakeboarder? Also, will it help get me out of the water better on 1 ski? (it did take a while to get me up) I have to check my hull, but I think I have room to install the tabs. How much verticle area do I need from the bottom of the boat for the tabs?

:cool:

IMHO, its going to cut the wake, but they can be wired up when you are wakeboarding, the actuators come off real easily.

Dutch;

Lubedude is exactly correct as well as Salty.

The large wake is caused by the excessive water dispacement when on the threshold of plane and before.

For Skiing, you will think you are being pulled by a Mastercraft. Little to no bow rise and a very linier acceleration - no arm jerking! You wil plane in about 3 seconds if it is taking 6 to 8 now. More importantly is the minimal bow rise before getting on plane. The trim on the motor should help create a wake even with the tabs (trim it out at slower wpeeds).

Or as Lubedude said, pull them up for wakeboarding.

From what I can see, the ST1290-80 is my application?
The boat weighs about 2700 lbs dry..
18-2 long, and 190 HP

Also, the stern of this boat has a contoured design, approx how high up from the bottom will the top bracket be mounted with the ST1290?

dutch;

About 11" from the bottom of the boat to the top of the transom bracket, but this depends on the transom angle to some minor degree.

Go with the ST1290-60 not the 80.

A stern drive boat is a bit better balanced when compared to a OB. If you need more we will exchange them NC.
