Wal-Mart gear oil for lower end..OK?

I was just there and I noted the 75-90 HP gear oil says its for outboard lower ends....at $2.97 its a great deal for a liter....can I use it instead of the official LOWER END oil......any thoughts!<br /><br />Thanks Tim

Yes, you can. If your outboard calls for EP90 for the LU. If you have an old electric shift J & E or some other oddball LU it mght take something different.

It's probably made by a major brand anyway..sure. I wait until the end of the year and grab all they have when they mark it down. Last year I scored Pennzoil (outboard gear oil) SYN QTS at 1/2 price, and got enough for years for use in my 4 outboards

I had a discussion with the local Johnny-Rude dealer and he said 99% of all the failures on the old elec/hyrdoelec LU was from using the wrong fluid. Either he was trying to get me to buy the OMC premium blend at $6 for 16oz or he was trying to give me some good advice. I figure for $12 a year assuming one LU oil change at end of season, it's worth it to buy the good stuff.<br />just my 2 cents

Its great to get a bargain once in a while and Walmart can give you a score once in a while.Charlie
