I'll be taking my dad fishing this Saturday at Milford Lake, and would love to bring back some walleye. I'll hopefully be borrowing a friends fishfinder (never used one before) to try and find the "flats" where I've heard the walleye hang out. Can anyone please tell me what to look for on the fishfinder or on the water? Any tips or advice will be greatly appreciated!

Main lake points...

Use #5 or #7 shad raps and fish from 2' deep the 10' deep. Drifting the standard night crawler also will work...
Talk to the locals also...

Old Marble eye's feed's on the flat's, however they take shelter in depth. Find out where the deep water & flat's merge.

By this time of the year the water has warmed and the hens are probalby feeding agressively, so find out if there are nightcrawler's and leaches avaible.

Go to you local walmart kmart bait shop or what ever and find some worm harness's. bright green or yellow maybe even gold.

If your fishing during the day forgot plug's your gonna have to use live bait, for my self id try to be on the water by 7am and usually it will quit by 12.00 noon. Then its time to jig, lol maybe some jig's same color. (there back in deep water)

Get some quality three way snap's, set them up as follow's. Rod line into the first eye, 10-14 inch's (Line) on the second eye attached to a sinker that will drop the rig to the bottom. Third line 2-3 feet attached the the spinner that is trailing the harness............ hint hint walleye's are sucker's for leache's... good luck..... ;)

Re: Walleye tips, please

Thanks, guys...
It turned out Dad didn't want to go out on the boat because of some health reasons that have really been bothering him. I did however talk him and my Mom into tryng some bank fishing in the evening. I spent most of the time baitng hooks, re-tying my daughters snags, and getting eaten alive by biting flies...A great time! No kidding, my Mom said she hadn't caught a fish in over 15 years and she reeled in two nice catfish and a small white bass. Dad also caught two catfish. I didn't want to risk losin my NEW Rapella shadraps so we just used nightcrawlers. I can't wait to get my boat out and try all these great tips! I've always wondered what those 3-ways were for...Big thanks, Tailgunner!

How to catch walley? Just fish for bass. That's always worked well for me....unless, I was fishing for walleye.....

I fished Millford earlier in the year. Didnt have much luck with the walleye but had a blast trolling Shad Raps for the white bass and wipers.

During the day, run a crawler harness on a bottom bouncer or a minnow on a jig it the fish are deep.

Re: Walleye tips, please

The fish are relatively shallow at Milford early and late (4-6ft) and the shadraps are out-producing worm harnesses right now, atleast for me.
They are going deep mid-day, 25ft+ and are very spread-out.
Our fall net samples showed very low numbers of walleye in the 15-20 inch range, with just a very few trophy-size fish...that's why we took most of our eggs from 3 other lakes.
The walleye are going through a 10yr cycle right now, and I think in another 3-4yrs, you'll see the numbers back up on larger fish.
Low-light periods on the points will be your best bet, and cranks always produce the larger, singles caught with fish spread out like they are.
