Hi Guys,

Have a 24# minn-kota trolling motor on my 14'
x-wide flat been using it for years no trouble. It's a transom mount that is mounted on a bracket I made fit the front of the flat. Today I purchased a new bow mount 40# all terrain. Tiller steering not the foot control.

The question I have is this, I saw a foot control on-off/momentary on switch at wallmart. It shows wiring two ways as if to have two switches. I know this sounds strange but I was wondering if anyone here has seen what I'm talking about or has actually installed one on their boat. I like the trolling motor but sometimes it's inconveiant to handle, say when bringing in a fish but I would like to turn it off.

Any input would be appreciated.

BTW the full fledge foot control steering/power setup is out of the question. Son-in-law has one on his boat and the few times I used it I almost threw myself out of :) the boat. He loves it.

Thanks,
Beck

:)

Are you talking about the BIG FOOT on/off switch? If you are when I had one I simply spliced it in between the trolling motor's ground wire and the ground on the battery. I know what you are talking about the foot controled motors. I know they are popular but I bought a boat last year with one on it and have been trying to find someone to trade with for a bow mount tiller.

RANimmo,

I don't blame you for trying to swap that foot control for a tiller handle. As I said I almost threw myself off of the bow using one.

Today I mounted the 40# Allterain Minn Kota on the front of my flatboat. Just mounted a 1/4" thick all. plate in the front port side of the boat and mounted the trolling motor to it. It's actually very sturdy, aprox. 9" wide by 25" long. (4) 5/16" ss cariage bolts. Tomorrow I will pick up a foot control on-off/momentary switch and wire it in. I also have to wire in the plug which I took off of my old motor. I'm a little concerned if the old plug can handle the amperage.
The paperwork says to wire in a 50 amp circuit breaker at the battery. I hope the existing wireing is adequate I think it is #8 A/c stranded.

I really should have gone fishing today because it was a beautiful day but I also wanted to get the motor installed. Hopefully tomorrow will be a nice day also.

Beck

RAN..

I wasn't sure of the name of the switch, but today I bought one and your right it's called a "Big Foot". I have to wire it in still. I tried it out today and on 5 th speed that 40#'s really moves my flat.

Beck
