So many of us with Mercury engines need a TDC Dial Indicator to aid in the setting of timing.

I have looked at Harbor Freight and others and have seen numerous **CHEAP** Dial Indicators; but none of them seem to come with a spark-plug thread adapter.

So; I decided to make one (as has been suggested here numerous times)....

But; How to get the porcelain out? (I tried drilling through it....bad idea :)

Anyway...like most things...it's all in knowing how.

If you want to see the easy way...go to this guys page:

Thanks to the poster over on the JohnnyRude Forum for that...

You can just knock off the ground electrode, then beat it out with a punch and a hammer. Be sure to wear safety glasses.

Cut off the electrode, then take a hacksaw, and cut the metal ring around the base of where the porcelain meets the metal housing, a few strokes of the saw and the anode will fall out. Make sure to drill a vent hole in the metal houseing to prevent the dial indicator being ejected due to compression.
