Is there any way to tell what gasket i will need before I split the riser off the manis. I would like to check them and hopefully put them back together all at once, I bought the boat used an want to make sure they are in good enough shape. I looked at the iboats exploded view it would seem that either 'i need the restricted or not, can i tell which I will need before hand?

Thanks
we are working on the 1996 5.0 in my sig

There are numerous ways. I look up parts at http://www.mercurymarine.com/shoponline/index.php then select "Go to Mercury Parts Express". Setup your account... You'll need your serial number for your engine.

Once you set up your account, you can view the parts catalog specific for you engine with the most up to date part number. Usually I just look up the number and buy the part somewhere else since the pricing is usually a premium at their site.

I'm afraid the SN won't help determine which gaskets to use, it will get you to the parts page, but it only lists which gaskets are available.
Here is the service bulletin that explains which one to use, and how to install them correctly.

Sorry, for any confusion... On my 1998 engine it only lists one part number, which per the Service Bulletin 99-10 is the correct part number.
