I think my Original distributor is a Mallory (probably) 40104. (it at least says 40104 on the distributor but has no brand markings)
Either way, I removed the distributor looking for markings without realizing it would mess up the timing. I didn't mark it before pulling it out.

Since i have it out now, instead of looking for a points conversion kit, I'm looking into replacing the whole distributor with an electric one. The issue I'm having is I can't figure out what brands and types are not only compatible with the engine, but are also recommended as being good quality. Does anyone have any tips.

Also, are there any good videos on installing a distributor and timing it? ( :/ )

Suggest Delco EST kit
Comes complete with everything including wires. Easy conversion and connection.

Don't know of any vids, but before doing anything remove the distributor cap. Not where the rotor is pointing to, and take a pic. Firing order is 1-8-4-3-6-5-7-2 and rotates in a clockwise direction.

Find plug number one on the cap, it will go to the first plug on the port side. Note where the rotor points in relation to number one plug rotor location. Bump the starter until the rotor is pointing at number one cap plug location.

Remove the dizzy and install new dizzy with the rotor pointing to the same location. Install new wires in same firing order

Whichever you decide on, make sure it's SAE-J1171 (marine) rated...
