Want to know about Crownline

What can y'all tell me about Crownline boats?

My brother and I are looking at a 1999 Crownline 266 (26 foot) bowrider with a 7.4L MerCruiser, 250 hours.

The boat has some minor damage from the dry storage roof blowing off during one of the Florida hurricanes. The damage is cosmetic and easily repaired. We are planning to have the boat surveyed by a pro.

Any thoughts?

See many C'Lines on Lake Michigan, all moving. Looking at their cruisers next year.

Go to Crownlines web site and download or read the JD Powers research reports. Crownline produces premium craft and are definitely top of the line in the 18 to 24 foot runabout category. They run into a lot more competition in the over 24 foot range but still offer top quality. Check pricing at

http://www.nadaguides.com/MarineHome.aspx?LI=1-10-0-2111-3-104-26531&wSec=14&wPr=0&wPg=2004&

I would select Crownline hands-down over Regal and Chaparall at the same price, but its a notch below Cobalt.

DJ, I have a 266CCR which is the cuddy version and couldn't be happier. The 266BR with the 7.4L will run in the hi 40's, low 50's (GPS) for top speed. The ride is pretty nice, as I have not heard the admiral say "slow down" or "it's too rough" yet. The 1999 model has XL plywood which has a lifetime warranty against rotting.

Re: Want to know about Crownline

Well, we picked up the boat after a survey. The hull is sound and the engine is also good but needs some things described below.

It is at the marina now being serviced. It seems it runs OK but needs some work due to water in the engine compartment.

At present, they are replacing the starter, alternator, P/S pump and servicing the engine. Those items still work, but we all know what happens down the road, once they've had moisture in them. Also, they will pull the outdrive and service the gimbal.

Can't wait till spring!
