Guess nobody is interested? so i will post some Q... is there anything to look fo in a D. Eagle nad is there any thing whith a force 50? these are supposedly well taken care of by a man of his elder years and I beleive he has done well , by the quality of the boat. The comperession has been tested @ 140? (sounds high..) is this realisti and the guy claims (repeatably) that the hull is dry. Without a drain (except deck) how do I tell if it is leaking? D. Eagle has no hull drain?

Shindig,I'm not familiar with this type of boat, but if its on a trailer give it a shake, listen for water sloshing inside or watch the boat for rocking....just like you would for checking out shocks on a car. Most important of all is to get him to take you on the water and see what she will do.If he doesn't want to do that then walk away...he's hiding something.
Good luck to ya.

No used boat is better than the maintenance it received. Some makes takes more TLC to stay in good shape and the previous owner's work has a lot to with it.

I do not know the boat, but Force is well known. Do a search here for Force and you'll see, that

a) it's no longer in production
b) it used to be a Chrysler (who went down)
c) if not serviced very well & properly over time it may be beyond recovery
d) parts are not that easy to get
f) second hand value is low. Lower than you think when you want to sell it!

Ofcourse getting a motor no longer in production takes some consideration. If good, however, it can be a bargain that'll bring you tonnes of pleasure.

You never noted the seller's asking price. I'm assuming he's asking $10,000, walk away.

The only boats I ever saw without a drain were small open aluminum, 12' and under. Water always gets into a boat and it has to get out or you will have problems. What do you mean by deck drain?
Force 50 could be okay, but I would personally prefer anything but.
Make sure you test drive boat.

Re: want to know if this is a good buy?

I went out this morninig for a test spin. (correction WE.. my wife and I) From what I've read about force 50's here, everything is fairly accurate... she's not a power house! and double eagles are pretty heavy. The motor runs smooth(ish) as I read, it has a mushy mid range. Hopefully this lack in power translates to better fuel economy :p Im new to this fiberglass boating so my terminoligy may be off... By deck drain I mean the drain for the deck surface you stand on. She needs a little TLC bun I think it will serve me and my family well for now. We parted with $3150.00 and are now prowd owners of a 79 Double Eagle. I will try to post a picture of her in the "show us your boat"

Too bad you weren't where I am at, I could get you a 19 foot Olympic with 175 horse Merc outboard, new seats and carpet, and trailer for $2700 obo. I could also have gotten you a 16 foot Tahiti ski boat with 175 horse Mercruiser 470 I/O, freshly rebuild, but with rough interior and dodgy trim motor (just needs rebuilt) for $1800 obo.

Either way, good luck and have fun with your new boat....

Have fun with your boat Shindig but I'll bet you will forget about fuel economy after a year and put a larger engine on it.

Congrats! Even though a "humble" size, your Force will wotk hard (full throttle) most of time, drinking fuel at a pretty high rate!
