Want to learn repair

I' want ot learn how to work on boat engines but I'm not sure where to start. Anyone have any suggestions? I'm a self-taught contractor so can pick up on these types of things pretty quick. Are classes of some sort a good option or should I just get an old boat and tear into the motor? THanks for your ideas.

there are many good schools, but expensive. if you just want to learn for yourself, and not as a living, buy a motor and service manual. that's how many of us got started. taking care of our own motors.
