First post for me and have been reading quite a bit without finding my answer.

So I have acquired a 79' Ranger Bass Boat and would like to start a resto of the exterior. The carpet is newer but the exterior needs some new paint. My question is with my garage being attached to my home and plumbed with heat and a/c when sanding the hull and top is it possible to let any harmful particles into the rest of my home? I am planning on doing a makeshift booth with thick ml plastic floor to ceiling do you think that's enough?

Thank you in advance!

Welcome to iBoats!

If you "Plasticize" the garage and raise the door just a bit and set a box fan in the opening to pull some of the dust out, you should be just fine. I did in my garage and had no adverse effect. The wife did not complain a bit. You do KNOW that you boat is NOT painted? It's finished with Gelcoat. You might be able to bring her back to life with some rubbing compound, polish and "Elbow Grease"!!!:D

Post up some pics and let us have a look at her. We can give a lot better advise if we can see what you see.

^^yep, what wood said works fine, but the dust does find itself everywhere, like spackle dust....if your heat/ac system has a return line in the home, you should be fine, if there is a return grill in the garage, you may want to tape a filter over it while you work...turn the system off if spraying toxic paint/products...

I will post pictures tonight. The gelcoat in my opinion needs to be sanded down and just painted. There are a few spots that need attention with a light skim coat.
