Re: want to upgrade prop?

We need to know what kind of boat you have to figure out the best size prop.

You can visit the propeller section here(top of the page) to see what sizes are available here. The best aluminum props for your motor are made by Solas.

The prop size is probably under the prop nut; need to remove the nut and washer to read the size. For example; 13 X 17 means 13" diameter by 17" of pitch(angle). The amount pitch is what mainly pushes water, but the more the pitch, the harder it is for the motor to turn it.

That's why you need a tachometer to set it up so the motor turns up to it's recommended rpm range at full throttle. Your motor would need 4500-5500 rpm at wide open throttle(WOT) to perform best all around.

You could get a induction tach and use it as a hand held or install there are a number of them on the net.
Tinytach is one. Reasonable price and easy install. These will work on almost any motor 1 cylinder or 16 cylinder
automotive, industrial, or marine. Some extremes might require some math.
You can get speed with a gps, some cells have a gps app.
