I just got an E-mail that was looked like it was from EBay. It was asking for not only your EBay user ID and password, but your E-mail address and password!
Like I'm that stupid to give it to them?

WATCH OUT and do not give them any information if you get this E-Mail.

This is what it said:

We regret to inform you that your eBay account could be suspended if you don't login into your account. If the security issue could not be solved your account will be suspended for a period of 3-4 days, after that it will be again operational.

Per the User Agreement, Section 9, we may immediately issue a warning, temporarily suspend, indefinitely suspend or terminate your membership and refuse to provide our services to you if we believe that your actions may cause financial loss or legal liability for you, our users or us. We may also take these actions if we are unable to verify or authenticate any information you provide to us.

Due to the suspension of this account, please be advised you are prohibited from using eBay in any way. This includes the registering of a new account.

Please note that this suspension does not relieve you of your
agreed-upon obligation to pay any fees you may owe to ebay.

Regards,

Safeharbor Department
eBay, Inc.

--
eBay

I know a few of us on IBoats have received those E-mails. It's the first one I ever got.

I wonder how many people fall for it and send their personal information?

I replied to the E-mail with some 'colorful metaphor', and left the FBI phone number at the bottom. :D

H.

Anyone that gets an email saying it is from ebay and is asking important info like that should be forwarded to spoof@ebay.com
They do investigate such emails.

I simply do not open any e-mail from an unknown person/place. "Shift" + "Delete" works well in outlook! I am still getting 2 e-mails a day with "mydoom" attached, at least its down from 15 a day! There are a lot of this type of scam going around, beware.
Richard

That Ebay scam is a nasty one. They auction off bogus item with your account, collect the cash, and leave you stuck. I have recieved a few of those, I just delete them.

Re: WARNING: Bogus EBay e-mail

According to the stats about 20% of these e-mails do get answered. That is really scary.
These ebay things look so real that only after you have looked at it for a minute you realize they are scams. They are mostly sent to people who at one time or another used their e-mail address as their user name.

Re: WARNING: Bogus EBay e-mail

The simplest way to never get burned from these scammers is to NEVER go to any financial web site from a link, go directly and if they need your info updated, (unlikely) that's the place to do it. Most of these scams also contain poor spelling and grammar. The best one I received was from Citi-Bank where I have no accounts, a dead giveaway of a scam. BTW, if you think people don't fall for these scams consider this, something like 50% of Nigeria's total income is from the Nigerian 419 scam. This year in Ormond Beach Florida a local resident got hit for $450,000.00 to the Nigerian scam, and this was after the local Police told him he was getting scammed, he refused to believe it and told the Police his ship (Titanic?) was coming in, cost him his entire retirement fund and house. If you check PAYPAL'S, ebay's, and all credit card web sites disclaimer you will see who gets burned when you get scammed. :(

Re: WARNING: Bogus EBay e-mail

Here is another one: I had a female call me the other night claiming to be from one of my credit card companies. She said I was eligible for a higher limit card and all she needed was to update my info. She asked if I was still living at an address that I no longer live at. That was a dead giveaway because that credit card company had been sending the bills to my current address since I have lived here. Also, they never call me, they always email me or send things in writing. Never trust over the phone stuff when it comes to credit. If you are being given a better line of credit from a company, they send it to you in writing and you have to sign it and send it back to accept it.

Our company got scammed with a long distance scam as well. The receptionist got tricked into giving info to a person claiming to be from Verizon and we ended up with a couple grand in long distance on the bill to numbers we had no idea who they were. Verizon took care of us, but you just have to watch your hindquarters....
