Warning Buzzer

Great first weekend, caught a dozen northern pike & a couple of large mouth. Motor ran great (856X4L) however, the heat alarm went off while trolling in about 3-4 feet of water, sandy bottom w/ milfoil already coming up. Impeller is 3yrs old and not used much the first two. The water spray was hot coming out of the exhaust ports (is this normal?) I remember the spray was pretty warm last year but the buzzer sounded once due to lean mix. Motor appeared to be pumping fine & ran very well at high rpm's.

Re: Warning Buzzer

May need to check your thermostat to make sure it is not getting weak.

I got in some milfoil in shallow water a couple of years ago and my 89 125 Force started steaming, and wasn't pumping much.
I used my trolling motor to move to deeper water, took the thermostat out and it had some milfoil blocking it, so I left the thermostat out so the water pressure would clear out any debree, and put the cover back on. The engine had cooled some while doing this so I started the engine and it pumped good and cooled down to where I could tell a difference in the water temperature and was no longer steaming and had a good stream of water coming out. After I felt sure the passage ways were clear I put the thermostat back in.
I'm not sure this was the right way to do this but it worked in my case.
That's how I found out my warning buzzer didn't work!

Re: Warning Buzzer

You never metioned wether the buzzer stopped after you got into deeper water. If it did than chances are you had just gotten the inlet ports stopped up with milfoil. I had the same occurance at the beginning of spring got into shallow water and the vegetation shut the water to the pump off like a switch. I held the trolling motor just under the surface until I could into deeper water, gave the engine time to cool back down started it and havent heard the buzzer since.

Re: Warning Buzzer

i shut the motor down as soon as the buzzer went off. fired her up after a little while, fished a lttle more & again went off. now, once i got out into deeper water, and, at higher rpm's around 25 - 30mph, didn't have any problems.. i've ordered a whole water pump kit. kinda' think the impeller is waring but will put a whole new system in anyway. this motor runs great & want to try & keep it that way. i ok w/ spending the extra $$$ on the kit. i'll write in once the job is done & tested!! Thanks dave
