1993 175 60 degree evinrude.

is the warning system live with 12 volts and do the switches, i.e. low oil, engine temp. and the rest, close this system feeding power to the buzzer. I don't know how else it would work.

I have twins and both seem to be wired the same, but one has power at the engine side of the low oil warning system and the other does not .

The motors did not come with the buzzers and I have not found a decent wiring diagram. Motor run now and tachs work.

Re: Warning buzzer ?

The sensors are ground when in fault, no oil and low oil different resistance. The logic on back of warning horn then decides which signal of beeps to beep. Overheat and fuel restriction full ground.

The warning horns should be at the helm, not the engine. The engines should both be wired the same, though you could have multiple horns.

All of the horn signals depends on grounding of the tan wire circuits off the main harness. Once you get into the mid 1990's, the SystemCheck circuits are different unless your 1993 wiring was updated to SystemCheck.

The gray wire in the fuel pump harness is connected to the same source as the tachometer and gets the pulsation for certain signals the same way as the tachometer.

Re: Warning buzzer ?

I don't have any warning devices at all. I am trying to install at the helm. At the helm I have an unused purple wire. If I have power at the engine side of the low oil warning wires, then the purple wires at the helm have power.

If no power to one wire at the engine side of the low oil warning wires, then no power at the purple wire at the helm.

I had a short in one rectifier that caused a fire that not put out could have ruined my day. So I am somewhat of a sissy with the electronics on these motors.

Sorry to be so vague. I truely have very little idea of what I am doing.

Thanks already for the other help I have gotten off of this forum. These engines are running great now.

Re: Warning buzzer ?

The warning device, be it horn or otherwise, is normally wired from the ignition Accessories (purple) post for positive current so that it is active whenever the ignition is in the run position.

The Tan wire is then connected to the engine side of the warning device (horn) through the main wiring harness (Large Red Plug). Any warning signal that provides a constant or sporadic ground to the tan wire will then sound or signal the alarm.

A typical OMC/BRP pre-SystemCheck diagram is shown by scrolling down to the middle of the following thread: http://continuouswave.com/whaler/reference/ignitionSwitch.html

The expensive horn used in the 1993 models also had a third signal wire that provided a short test beep whenever the ignition switch was turned from "off" to "run".
