warning horn 89' 70 evenrude?

oh heres the deal my warning horn got smashed so i pulled it figured i could just order a new one online. after searching and searching the only one i found is for $70 bucks and that gonna happen while searching i found a thread that says i can just get a buzzer from radio shack and hook that up for 5 bucks i guess the question i have is has any one hear of or done that and if so what wires are what i got a purple,tan and black with a male pin conn on it?????

You can find those OEM horns on ebay from time to time. Got one a year or two ago for around $25 including shipping. Just got to keep looking.

The "Piaza" buzzers from Radio Shack can be wired to work. I believe purple for positive and the tan to ground. You may need a seperate buzzer for the low oil alarm. Dont have personal knowledge of this but have heard others with positive success.

A simple "buzzer" will not work on an outboard with System Check however, introduced in 96 I believe. If you use a buzzer other than OEM, you stand a chance of frying the electronics inside the oil tank and pump. The amperage draw of the different horns may cost you big cash if you destroy the warning system's electronics, because they have to supply the ground circuit when a problem develops. There is also a possibility that the temp switches could not handle increased amperage either when they are activated.

I would keep an eye on Ebay and get an OEM buzzer.

I just replaced mine. It cost me $38.00. And they had it in stock. Give them a shout maybe they will trat u right t
